When the planning for the Vermont trappers website was being held it became apparent this was the appropriate time to do a history of the VTA. Many of the important players are still alive, though after nearly 32 years the hair is grey or white and memories are starting to fade.
I received a large box of material from Wayne Kingsley the first Vice-President which was interesting reading. Bob Twichell the first Secretary worked hard on the success of the first fall convention and his papers are in my possession. Others have old documents which need to be gone through to form a more complete record of just who did what.
I had originally thought writing a history would be a relatively simple job but I soon changed my mind and decided it should be more complete. Seven of the nine Presidents are still alive so much information is available. Just as important, many Secretaries and Directors are either still active in the VTA or other parts of the sporting community.
The part of the VT Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs is important as is the part played by George Wacha, past General Organizer of the National Trappers Association. But just as important is the tremendous strides this organization has made. I am immensely proud of the VTA and the work of the Officers and Directors both past and present.
There will be more than one person doing the writing, so hopefully this will add to the final product. With all this said I hope you enjoy this effort and are able to down load each segment.
